April Meeting Canceled - Speaker out of town and can't read a calendar

Submitted by jduncan on Tue, 04/17/2012 - 00:04

Hi Everyone.

Our original plan was to have a quick talk about crash and the kdump utility at this month's meeting. Sadly a lack of ability to read a calendar has left me out of town for work this week. So we'll have to scratch this month's meeting and focus on May.

Some highlights hopeful for May:

* hopefully moving back to the new & improved Hacker Space (still pending talking & confirming with those guys)
* back on track with getting the word out ahead of time, letting more people know and working on better crowds that benefit everybody.

Come one, come all. Snacks and Entertainment. What more could you ask for?

Director, Cyber Security and Technology Risks Underwriting at Markel Corporation
Co-Founder / CEO / CFO at the Open Security Foundation (http://opensecurityfoundation.org)

Topic: The OSF in general, and then I'm sure we'll devolve into a vaguely security-related talk.

Uncle Verne will be arriving in a week. Get Ready.

Fedora 16 will be coming out in a week. Sadly I’ve been pretty silly busy and haven’t been able to keep up with the Fedora team as they push out their latest take on what Linux ought to be.

RVaLUG is trying a new home

Submitted by jduncan on Sun, 10/30/2011 - 11:40

First and foremost, we just want to say that we love the folks at the Richmond Hackerspace. Sadly we're trying out best to outgrow the conference room they offered RVaLUG use of for our monthly meetings last year.

With that in mind, we're going to try on O'Tooles back bar and conference room for size. O'Tooles is a Richmond institution, family owned since it opened in 1960 and home to great pub grub and cold beer.

So when you come to the meeting this month, come into O'Tooles, walk on through the main dining room to the bar in the other room, and you'll find us there.

If there is any single application that I consider myself a complete and utter homer for, it's Zabbix. I've talked about it here, and my hope is to toss out at least one fun Zabbix-related tidbit each week.
